'Shadow and Bone' trailer dives into a world full of mysteries and drama

There's a new fantasy world full of mysteries and drama you can soon lose yourself in.

Netflix on Saturday released the trailer for "Shadow and Bone," a series based on the bestselling Grishaverse novels.

In the trailer, Alisha Starkov can be seen hesitantly but courageously entering the Shadow Fold, a "scar on the map" that has torn their country into two.

However, her ship is attacked by monsters, leading her to unleash a searing light amid the darkness. Her mysterious power is then speculated to be what the country needs to free itself.

According to author and executive producer Leigh Bardugo, the show "takes place in a very different kind of fantasy world. Think Imperial Russia, not Medieval England, repeating rifles instead of broadswords."

She added, "It’s been incredible to see that story take shape on such an epic scale, the battles, the magic, but also the relationships between the characters."

Featuring Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, and Ben Barnes among many others, the eight-episode series is set to premiere on Netflix this coming April 23. —Kaela Malig/JCB, GMA News
