Resident Evil unveils title for new movie: ‘Welcome to Racoon City’

A new “Resident Evil” film is officially in the works.

According to IGN, the reboot is titled “Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City,” and it will follow the events of the first two games in the popular game series.

It’s also expected to feature the main characters from the games, including Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Claire Redfield.

Meanwhile, Comicbook.com says the cast of “Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City” includes Chad Rook as Richard Aiken, joined by Kaya Scodelario (Claire Redfield,) Robbie Amell, (Chris Redfield), Hannah John-Kamen (Jill Valentine), and more.

The director, Johannes Roberts, had told IGN in an interview that the new movie will not be a remake of the franchise previously directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Mila Jovovich.

“Obviously, there is the Resident Evil [film] franchise and this movie doesn’t have anything to do with that,” Roberts was quoted as saying. “It’s a whole separate origin story based in the roots of the [video game series] and the world of horror.” — Margaret  Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
