Shanti Dope’s ‘Amatz’ is in the latest episode of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’

The latest episode of the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has some Filipino hip-hop flavor.

Shanti Dope’s hit song “Amatz” plays during a scene in Madripoor, a fictional Southeast Asian city located near Singapore and Sumatra. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier travel to the city with Baron Zemo.

The episode titled “Power Broker” features the two heroes traveling to the city with Baron Zemo to look for clues to find the source of a new batch of Super Soldier Serums.

The song previously met with controversy following a push by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to ban the song in 2019 for supposedly promoting drug use.

The management of Shanti Dope had denied the PDEA’s accusation that the song promotes illegal drugs, saying it was “unfair” and “offensive” to the songwriter for the agency to judge the song based only on portions of its lyrics.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” which stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in the title roles, deals with the fallout in the Marvel Universe following the events of “Avengers: Endgame.”
