'Stranger Things' star Gaten Matarazzo assures Season 4 is underway: 'It's very hard with COVID'

It's been almost two years since "Stranger Things" last dropped a season, and there's still no sight of the next one.

But Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin in the hit Netflix show, has assured that they're working on it.

"We're making it. That's for sure," he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I'm very excited about it."

The actor said he's home in New Jersey right now, but he'd just finished reading the script of the upcoming season and they've been working on "little increments here and there."

"It's very hard with COVID, and it's a big production, and we film a lot of our stuff in big locations, outside with a lot of people involved. There's a lot of steps and a lot of measures that need to be made before we can think about consistently going into filming," he said.

He said that the upcoming season's tone has "definitely matured."

"I think they do that on purpose because I think they want their show to mature with their kids. As we are growing older as people, we have to grow older as characters," Gaten said.

He added that the creators, the Duffer Brothers, have a "pretty clear idea as to where they want to wrap the show up."

"I think they have a completely clear outline as to how they want their show to end," he said.

"But what's good about them is that though they have their conclusion and though they have their idea of how they want this to wrap up, they're very keen on letting it play out by ear," he added.

"Stranger Things," a sci-fi horror series that premiered in 2016, follows a group of kids in 1980s Indiana as they deal with the discovery of the Upside Down and the monsters that reside there.

Netflix premiered the third season in July 2019. It announced that there will be a fourth season months after. —JCB, GMA News
