Henry Golding, Dakota Johnson to star in Netflix’s ‘Persuasion’ adaptation

Henry Golding of “Crazy Rich Asians” is set to star alongside Dakota Johnson of “Fifty Shades of Grey” in Netflix’s film adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion.”

According to a Deadline report on Wednesday, Dakota will play the lead role of Anne Elliot, while Henry will portray Mr. Elliot, Anne’s cousin.

“Persuasion,” the last novel Austen wrote, follows the story of Anne, a progressive, unmarried 27-year-old woman who lives with her snobby family. Just as they’re on the brink of bankruptcy, Frederick Wentworth, a man she once rejected, comes back into her life.

Carrie Cracknell, known for Broadway’s “Sea Wall/A Life,” will direct the upcoming film, while Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow will write the screenplay.

A story of second chances at love, Austen’s “Persuasion” has been adapted for the screen many times, including the renowned 2007 film starring Sally Hawkins.

The film adaptation’s release date and the actor who will play Dakota’s love interest have yet to be announced. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
