Donita Rose promotes modern Filipino cuisine in US as corporate chef

As a corporate chef for a United States-based Filipino supermarket chain, Donita Rose is always seeking ways to promote modern Filipino cuisine.

On Lhar Santiago’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, Donita opened up about cooking and being a working professional in the US.

“I’m always developing new recipes. That’s the fun part about it. It’s kind of like reinventing the wheel. Sinigang is sinigang. How do you make sinigang new?” she said.

As a corporate chef, she is in charge of the company’s 15 restaurant branches.

Apart from catering to Filipinos in the country, Donita said she was happy to see that our food also had a foreign market.

“Those who are not used to Filipino food, I talk to them like, you know what, binagoongan is a staple in the Philippines. You should actually open your mind to it,” she said.

“Then they would try and be like, oh, I never thought that I could say that I liked that ’cause the smell doesn’t match its taste.”

Although she had been thriving in the US, Donita said she was still trying to look for jobs that allowed her to be in front of the camera, like hosting.

“I’ve only done one and they contacted me which was a huge surprise. It was for a baking show, to be a co-host,” she said.

Donita also said that she was open to coming back to the Philippines to continue her showbiz career.
