Polio survivor receives wheelchair from GMA Kapuso Foundation

A polio survivor is among the beneficiaries of 70 wheelchairs from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a “24 Oras” report, Wednesday, Zolo Bugwac from Cebu has been crawling with his now callus-filled knees for over 42 years because of his condition.

Zolo was born with polio and had never walked since. He also wasn’t able to go to a doctor to get professional help.

Although he had been doing his best to earn a living by selling bottled water and vegetables, he said other people still bullied him for his disability.

“I get bullied because I’m disabled. They wonder how I’ll earn money,” he said in Filipino.

Apart from Zolo, his sister also cannot walk because she has cerebral palsy.

This National Disability Month, the GMA Kapuso Foundation gave Zolo a tricycle wheelchair with a built-in tray for his items for sale.

“Ever since I was young, I have dreamed of having a wheelchair like this,” he said.

Apart from donating 70 wheelchairs, 10 strollers, and 12 mechanical arms, the Kapuso Foundation is also set to distribute eight more wheelchairs in Cebu and 9 mechanical arms in Luzon.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation accepts donations through bank deposits, PayMaya, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Zalora and Mega Mart.
