Alfred Vargas earns master of public administration degree from UP
Alfred Vargas just earned his master of public administration degree from the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance.
The actor-politician announced the news on his Instagram account, thanking his mother for guiding and inspiring him to reach this dream.
Alfred said he wished she lived to see him fulfill his promise to her.
"Nakaka-senti ang pagtatapos at hindi nabawasan ang excitement kahit virtual ang graduation rites," he said.
("It feels sentimental to graduate and the excitement is not reduced even though the graduation rites are virtual.")
Alfred said he is excited to dress up and wear his sablay.
"Di matanggal ang aking malaking ngiti kahit ang kaharap ko ay laptop at hindi ko katabi ang aking mga kaklase," he said.
("I can't help but smile even though I'm front of a laptop and I don't have my classmates by my side.")
"And in the midst of all the emotions, I can't help but reflect on the significance of the moment," he added.
Alfred said finishing a degree in these "challenging times" is a "valuable personal journey."
"Ang hirap. Minsan pakiramdam ko pasakit na sa dami ng aking ibang tungkulin labas sa pagiging estudyante. But we know that nothing good comes easy," he said.
("It's difficult. Sometimes I felt it's a struggle with my many responsibilities outside of being a student.")
"Almost 20 years after graduating from college, 12 years into my calling as a public servant, I feel a renewed sense of commitment to the philosophy my other Alma Mater, Ateneo (AB MEco '02), has instilled in me," he added.
Alfred said that "being 'a man for others' is a mission I embrace with greater resolve."
"I want to continue to strive, with fervor, being a man for my family, my community, and my country, and God," he said.
He ended his note thanking those who were with him in his journey to graduation, including his wife Yasmine.
Aside from being an actor, Alfred has been serving as the representative from the fifth district of Quezon City since 2013.
