Derrick Monasterio sings about ghosting, zodiac signs on ‘Virgo’

Derrick Monasterio is set to release his new single “Virgo,” a song about people with the zodiac sign and ghosting.

In an online interview with the press on Wednesday, the Kapuso actor said the song was timely because millennials these days used zodiac signs as a guide.

“There are a lot of groups on Facebook about zodiac signs and Virgo’s one of the most bullied. I don’t know for what reason. True enough, I checked. Medyo mainit ang Virgo,” he told GMA News Online.

“I guess kasi may pagka-perfectionist sila, minsan may pagka-paasa sila. Maraming makaka-relate dito kasi it’s happening now,” he added.

“Some of the verses, a Virgo person can relate to talaga.”

Derrick said this was a song that he was very proud to release, and he added that listeners, especially people his age, would have fun jamming to it.

“Nakikita ko ’yung sarili ko rito sa new song. Generation namin ’to. Ito ’yung mga sinasayaw namin sa party, naririnig namin sa radio,” he said.

In case you didn’t know, Derrick, whose birthday is on Aug. 1, is a Leo. Is that compatible with a Virgo?

The actor also said that his song “Virgo” was also about ghosting.

“Umaasa ’yung guy. Virgos, as I’ve said, [may be] perfectionists so ’pag nakakakita sila ng flaw, in the middle of the relationship, nao-off sila,” he said.

“They tend to ghost the other person,” he added. “Parang pang-ghosting nga talaga although maganda ’yung beat niya, upbeat, happy beat. It’s just sad ’yung lyrics.”

Derrick said that he had ghosted and been ghosted before, so he applied these experiences to his new song.

“I’ve experienced it both ways na ako ’yung nag-ghost and na-ghost ako. Okay lang. Thankful (ako) kasi ibig sabihin sabi ni Lord siguro, ‘Problema ’yan. ‘Wag ’yan,’” he said.

“Masasabi ko na may iniisip akong certain scenario sa utak ko tapos nag-translate into the music so maririnig niyo ’yon hopefully,” he added.

If he were to dedicate the song to someone, Derrick said it would be to a former partner.

“I’m probably telling this to my ex. While I’m recording it, I’m thinking of past experiences sa ex ko so parang sa ex ko sinasabi,” he said.

Earlier, Derrick admitted that he was “talking to someone” and in the getting-to-know stage. His last known girlfriend was Livia Dumont, who he introduced in 2019.

“Virgo” will start streaming on Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music on Aug. 20. It will also be available on iTunes.
