BTS visits The Met Museum in New York, presents gift from Korean government

BTS is working nonstop!

After giving a speech at the 76th UN General Assembly, BTS visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and presented an artwork as gift from the South Korean government.

The Met shared the update on Tuesday with a photo of the group’s seven members standing behind officials, which included South Korean First Lady Kim Jung Sook and Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Hwang Hee.

“Permission to dance on the rooftops?” said the Twitter post.

The Met’s Twitter account also shared a photo of BTS leader RM who delivered remarks as the group presented the artwork by lacquer artist Chung Hae Cho.

“Together in a private ceremony, they presented an exceptional work by Chung Haecho—one of the leading lacquer artists in Korea—as a gift from the South Korean government to the Museum,” it said.

Called “Rhythm of the Five Color Luster,” the work features five vessels in colors red, black, yellow, red and blue, which all represent the traditional Korean color spectrum. It was made in 2013.

It also represents “a continuation and innovation of the centuries-long lacquer tradition and the traditional iconography of color.”

According to the museum, it plans to make it accessible to the public through the “Shell and Resin: Korean Mother-of-Pearl and Lacquer” exhibit, which will open on Dec. 13.

On Monday, BTS spoke at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment of the UNGA as Republic of Korea President Moon Jae In’s special presidential envoys for future generations and culture.

In their speech, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook encouraged everyone, especially the youth, to look forward to the future with a hopeful heart and welcome new challenges and change.

The group also performed their hit song “Permission to Dance” at the historic UN headquarters. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
