'Aladdin' star Mena Massoud says sequel still in early development: 'They're trying to make it happen'

The sequel to the 2019 live-action Disney film "Aladdin" is still in early development, actor Mena Massoud has revealed.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Massoud said that as far as he knew, the producers were still in the script-writing process.

"They're working on it. They're trying to make it happen. That's really all I know," he said.

"As you know, usually actors are the last piece of the puzzle, so the studio has got a lot to worry about before they start thinking about the actors," he added. "Obviously,  I would hope that all of us come back and Naomi, Will and I all come back and the rest of the cast, Marwan, Navid, Nasim, everybody. But right now, as far as I know, they're just working on the script and trying to make it happen."

Massoud played the title character Aladdin, with Naomi Scott as his leading lady, Princess Jasmine.

The adaptation of the 1992 classic was a smash hit, and talks of a sequel emerged soon after it was released.

In early 2020, it was reported that Disney has writers John Gatins and Andrea Berloff to pen the script for "Aladdin 2." —JCB, GMA News
