These Pinoy grandparents in the US are YouTube stars now, thanks to mukbang
An elderly Filipino couple in the US have been delighting thousands of viewers with their feel-good mukbang videos.
In an interview with GMA-7's "On Record," Lola Lualhati and Lolo Jhonny Ignacio talked about gaining online fame after they moved to the US in 2019.
They said they often spend time with their grandson Jann Zoireen Raymundo, who is a cook at a hospital. Jann also makes YouTube videos.
"I started making mukbang videos last year, and na-realize ko na di ko pala kayang ubusin ang pagkain, kaya naisipan kong isama 'yung lola tsaka 'yung lolo ko," Jann said.
Their trio became a hit, garnering more than 100,000 YouTube subscribers. Lola Lualhati and Lolo Jhonny Ignacio said they never expected their vlogs to become so popular.
"Noong primero, ako ay aayaw at aayaw ako at nahihiya, at kung saan-saan pala nakikita 'yan," said Lola Lualhati.
"Pero nung nababasa ko ang mga comments na sila ay nasisiyahan nakakawala ng stress, aba! Sige, kung ako nakakawala ng stress, ay sige, ituloy ang vlog na iyan," she added.
The couple, who are both over 80, also assured their fans that they are taking good care of their health despite all the tasty food they get to eat.
"Okay naman ang health namin," Lola Lualhati said.
"Lami ay may maintenance at ako at, every two months, nagpupunta kami sa doktor, tapos every ako ay nagbibilad sa araw, nage-exercise ako roon. Kaya, ayun, maginhawa naman ang aking pakiramdam," she added. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
