QC ready to open all public parks under Alert Level 2 — Belmonte

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday said the local government is ready to open all the public parks in the city in case the National Capital Region shifts from Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2.

Interviewed on ANC, Belmonte said the city government has been prepared to reopen their green spaces as they expected Metro Manila to be placed under Alert Level 2 as early as November 1.

“Now we are ready to open all our public parks come the downgrading to Alert Level 2,” she said.

Of the public parks in QC, only the Quezon Memorial Circle has been allowed to be visited by residents for exercise activities.

According to Belmonte, they are ready to open the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center, La Mesa Ecopark, and all barangay community parks.

On Monday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairperson Benhur Abalos said he has appealed to the Department of Health to reassess the NCR after a week and place it under Alert Level 2.

Abalos said Metro Manila had a 7.4% daily attack rate, but the requirement percentage to be placed under Alert Level 2 is 7%, which means the region missed by 0.4%.

“Ang dinudulog ko nga if it’s possible, imbes na two weeks, maghintay ng two weeks, baka in one week mag-7% baka lang pupuwede i-alert level 2 na once we attain that,” he said.
