Ben&Ben reveals ‘Lunod’ was inspired by near-drowning incident
Ben&Ben revealed that their hit song "Lunod" figuratively and literally drew close to home.
In a press conference for their music video launch on Friday, the members of the OPM band said "Lunod" was inspired by a real-life drowning incident.
Vocalist Paolo Benjamin said that aside from the anxiety they felt after their sibling was diagnosed with COVID-19, it was an actual drowning experience that brought "Lunod" to life.
"'Yung feeling ng anxiety na 'yun plus feeling na muntikan na malunod. Nakatira kasi kami malapit sa dagat," he said. "May nangyari na muntikan last year."
[That anxious feeling plus the feeling of almost drowning. We live near the sea. And there was an incident last year.]
He added, "'Pag nalulunod ka pala, nate-tempt ka na sumuko na lang kaysa mag-patuloy. 'Yun 'yung inspiration ng song."
[Apparently, when you're drowning, you're tempted to just give up instead of continuing. That's the inspiration of the song.]
One of the first magical moments that occurred during the process of creating the song, said Paolo, was when the other members finally added their own sounds to the song.
It became more magical when "Kyusi" singer Zild and "Buwan" singer Juan Karlos joined them.
Ben&Ben's "Lunod" music video, directed by Jerrold Tarog and in collaboration with Juan Karlos and Zild, was released this Friday.
