Free bike lessons offered in Pasig City

Free bicycle lessons were offered in Pasig City on Sunday to encourage more people to cycle and advocate for more bike lanes.

According to Jamie Santos' report on "24 Oras," the event was organized by Pasig Transport, Bicycle Friendly Philippines, and other organizations.

The lessons were held on Emerald Avenue and attracted learners of all ages.

"We talk about the basics, ABC, check the air, check the brakes, check the chain or the cables. We also talk about scooting, 'yung pano mag umpisa [how to start] and then we let them go," said Karen Crisostomo of Bicycle Friendly Philippines.

Robert Anthony Sy, Chief of Pasig Transport, said the modern teaching methods during the event helped some of the participants to learn to ride within 30 to 40 minutes.

Crisostomo said learning becomes easier with the will to learn and faith on oneself.

"Kung pinilit lang sila hindi mangyayari pero kung sa sarili nila iniisip nila na kaya nilang gawin at gusto nilang gawin, mangyayari," she said.

("It won't happen if they are forced, but if they, by themselves, think that they can do it and they want to do it, then it will happen.")
