Here’s how Dingdong Dantes teaches Zia and Sixto about the environment
Dingdong Dantes is making sure his kids Zia and Sixto know the importance of taking care of the environment.
At the media conference for the fourth anniversary of “Amazing Earth" the Kapuso celebrity said he tries to teach them by example, given the kinds of projects he's done through the years.
Dingdong shared Zia and Sixto really started learning about what’s right and wrong about the environment, when he was given a book by children's books author and screenwriter, Augie Rivera.
It was their way to set the nature-loving culture at home, Dingdong said.
“So bago sila matulog, kinukwento ko tungkol sa isang character na isang octopus, kung ano yung nangyari sa kanya.”
Ever an actor, Dingdong also uses his showbiz experience to give their storytelling time enough action and theatrics to make and keep the kids interested.
According to Dingdong, Zia now has her favorite stories, which he would gladly tell and even act for her.
The proud father of two said immersion is just as valuable. Dingdong see family beach trips as opportunities to teach his kids how to care for the environment.
“Tignan mo yung kapaligiran. Kapag may makita kang plastic, pulutin mo kasi wala dapat yan diyan. Kasi ito magiging epekto niyan sa tubig; kung sakaling pumasok siya sa loob, ito yung species na kakainin niya sa loob ng tubig," he recalled telling Zia one particular beach trip.
Dingdong added, “Iba talaga kapag praktikal, nararamdaman, nahahawakan, at na-e-experience nila. So kami ni Marian, yun ang plano talaga namin—to really expose them and alam talaga nila yung magiging impact sa kapaligiran.”
At the same press con, Dingdong said taking care of planet Earth doesn't just involves lawmakers and policy makers, but also everyday folk like us.
“Tayo naman talaga ang mga tagapangalaga ng itong magagandang bagay na binigay sa ‘tin ng Panginoon. I think everyone has their own role in taking care of all these God-given gifts."
“Amazing Earth” will be presenting episodes for their fourth anniversary starting on July 10, Sunday at 5:20 p.m. on GMA. — LA, GMA News
