Feng Shui consultant shares 3 DIY ways to attract good luck and fortune this New Year

Every New Year, people practice rituals to try and attract good luck for the coming year. There's preparing round food for a smooth-sailing journey, eating misua for long life, and preparing sticky things for a closer family bond.

But on Unang Hirit Friday, Feng Shui consultant Johnson Chua showed other DIY ways we can bring in good luck to 2023.

There's the DIY prosperity bowl: Fill a bowl with bigas, rolling paper money and sticking it up the grain, and then accompanying that with red ampaw. According to Chua, the bigas bowl represents bounty. "The bigger the bowl, the better," he said.

The red colored ampaw meanwhile can serve to attract luck. He reminds everyone that the number of rolled paper and ampaw sticking up the bigas bowl should always be odd numbers.

Alternatively, you can also fill a bowl with water and then slide 9 coins into it. "The number 9 represents good money luck. Papasok na kasi sa Feng Shui yung tinatawag na Period 9, which represents prosperity and success," Chua said.

Like the bigas bowl, using a bigger bowl for this exercise is also better. Chua says the coins shouldn't land on top of each other and they should be of the same denomination. So if you're using a P1 coin, it should be 9 pieces of P1 coin.

Finally, you can activate good luck at home by writing down your wishes, putting them inside a red envelope (like ampaw) and sticking them up on your front door. If you have rowdy kapitbahays, sticking those up inside your front door shouldn't be a problem.

Chua says these are best done on New Year's Eve, "bago pumasok ang Jan 1," have them all on display all through the first day of the New Year and then pack them away on January 2.
