Trailer for Wes Anderson film 'Asteroid City' gathers Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, and more

Fans of director Wes Anderson, today is going to be a good day! The first trailer for his new movie, "Asteroid City," just dropped.

The preview gives a first look at the ensemble, which includes Scarlett Johansson ("Black Widow"), Tom Hanks ("The Da Vinci Code"), Maya Hawke ("Stranger Things"), and Margot Robbie ("Suicide Squad").

And with the aesthetically pleasing composition and color palette, the film clearly oozes of classic Wes Anderson.

Set in a 1950s fictional American desert town, the film centers on a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention, where students and parents converge for a scholarly competition. At the convention, chaos ensues when world-changing events take place.

Steve Carell ("The Office"), Hong Chau ("The Whale"), Tilda Swinton ("Doctor Strange"), Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad"), Edward Norton ("Fight Club"), and Adrien Brody ("The Pianist") also join the film.

Also part of the film are Willem Dafoe ("Spider-Man"), Jeff Goldblum ("Jurassic Park"), Jeffrey Wright ("The Hunger Games"), Rupert Friend ("Homeland"), Liev Schreiber ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), Hope Davis ("Succession"),  Matt Dillon ("Crash"), Sophia Lillis ("Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves"), and Rita Wilson ("Runaway Bride").

Wes wrote the script with Roman Coppola, who also worked with Anderson on films like "The French Dispatch," “The Darjeeling Limited,” and “Moonrise Kingdom.”

The movie is slated for a June 22 release date abroad. It's also set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The festival will run from May 16 to 27. —Kimberly Tsao/JCB, GMA Integrated News
