Pauline Amelinckx tells pageant fans to stop bringing other queens down: 'So disappointing'
Pauline Amelinckx, in what she called a “long overdue” post, spoke up against pageant fans who bring other candidates down as a way to support their favorites.
The Boholana beauty queen wrote the post alongside a photo with her fellow Miss Universe Philippines candidates.
“[I] really wanted to speak out and speak up against those individuals who claim to be pageant fans but who have made it their past time to bring beauty queens down, only, they disguise it as support to their bets," she said.
Pauline said that in the pageant industry, the queens understand the value of kindness and supporting other women, especially given their different challenges.
“In this industry, that support system is one of the things that actually keeps us going,” she said.
“We chose to be in this industry, for its platform, its reach, the personal growth. We allow ourselves to be authentic and vulnerable in the sea of noise that tries to tell us how and who we should it be,” she added. “Navigating through all of that without losing our sense of self is challenging already.”
Pauline said that she will not stand for supporting a favorite if it means bringing others down.
“It's so disappointing to see this happen online,” she said.
Pauline told pageant fans, “[If] that’s the way you show support, [I] can only implore you to rethink your actions and chose kindness instead. [Lifting] one person up [doesn't] need to be through the destruction of someone else.”
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray commented, “Louder,” with clapping emojis. Pauline’s pageant sister Angelique Manto also commented with a clapping emoji.
Pauline was crowned Miss Supranational Philippines and is set to compete in the international pageant on July 14.
Meanwhile, Michelle Dee was crowned Miss Universe Philippines and will represent the country in the international pageant in El Salvador, Central America.
