'Monsters,' based on Eiichiro Oda's one-shot, is headed to Netflix this January

"Monsters" — full title "103 Mercies Dragon Damnation" — from the creator of "One Piece" is heading to Netflix this month!

The anime is currently listed on the platform with no release date, but Netflix previous confirmed it was for January 2024.

It adapts Eiichiro Oda's one-shot manga published in 1994 on Shonen Jump. In 1998, it was reprinted as part of "Wanted," a compilation of Oda's pre-"One Piece" stories.

According to the summary on Netflix, the episode follows a samurai whose path "leads him to a young waitress whose hometown was destroyed by a dragon. He doesn't want any trouble — but it finds them anyway."

The samurai is actually Shimotsuki Ryuma, the zombie who appears in the Thriller Bark Arc of "One Piece" and goes head to head with Roronoa Zoro.

Additionally, the original "One Piece" anime is set to stream the Egghead Arc.

The movies "One Piece Film: Red" (2022) and "One Piece Stampede" (2019) have also been made available for streaming.

Netflix released its live action adaptation of the original "One Piece" manga in August, and it quietly became a top hit around the world. It garnered a whopping 18.5 million views within four days of release. It reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, and debuted at no. 1 in 46.

A second season has since been announced.
