Lee Young Ae to reprise 'Jewel in the Palace' role in new K-drama

Dae Jang Geum’s story is not over yet!

Lee Young Ae is all set to return as her iconic role, Dae Jang Geum from the classic K-drama “Jewel in the Palace,” for an upcoming series.

According to a statement by artist agency Fantagio published by Soompi, the series “Uinyeo [Female Physician] Dae Jang Geum” is preparing to start filming in October with the aim to start airing in early 2025.

“With lead actress Lee Young Ae having been cast last year in June, we recently wrapped up signing the contract with the drama scriptwriter,” Fantagio said.

“Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” will follow Dae Jang Geum as she becomes a physician, set after the story of “Jewel in the Palace.”

2024 also marks the classic historical drama’s 20th anniversary.

“Jewel in the Palace” follows the story of Jang Geum, a young kitchen cook at the royal palace who eventually becomes the King's first female physician.

It made a comeback on GMA Network’s GTV in 2023.
