Ben&Ben drop heartbreaking new song ‘COMETS’

Ben&Ben is back with a new heartbreak anthem.

Titled “COMETS,” the song is about the hurt of losing a love even after giving the relationship everything they’ve got. However, the mixed feelings of an ending also bring hope and acceptance.

According to the songwriters and vocalists Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin, the songwriters behind “COMETS” were inspired by the many losses they’ve encountered in the past four years: breakups, end of friendships, and even the end of professional relationships.

“Though mostly dwelling on that feeling of loss, the song ends with the hopeful realization of gratitude—being thankful for ever having experienced any of it at all,” Ben&Ben said in a press statement.

“With each loss comes a painful process of asking why the nature of life is as such,” they added. “The answer is hardly ever straightforward, but reveals itself over long periods of time. ‘COMETS’ is an expression of that very journey, and hopes to help the listener through these realities in their lives too.”

Ben&Ben has been performing “COMETS” since 2021 and has gone through several versions. The band said it is one of the songs they’ve spent the longest time finetuning and arranging. It was produced by Indonesian musician Petra Sihombing, David Lina, and Rene Serna.

The band hopes that LIWANAG, their fanbase, would relate to the parting words of the song, “though these nights are turning gray, still I am thankful for what's passed. I know there will come a day when I will finally understand.” For Ben&Ben, gratitude and hope can come without totally understanding the "whys" behind it all.

“We're on the same journey of finding these answers ourselves—of why life is fleeting. And with that hope comes the strength and courage we need to keep going, to keep loving, and to keep on finding meaning in our experiences,” they said.

In 2023, Ben&Ben released the singles “Could be Something,” “Courage,” and “Autumn.” That year, the folk-pop band was the Philippines' no. 1 streamed OPM artist on Spotify.

More of Ben&Ben’s recent achievements include performing with Ed Sheeran and having their songs featured in the musical adaptation of the classic film “One More Chance.”
