Barista gives out free coffee to frontliners in Manay following Davao Oriental earthquakes

A barista gave out free coffee to the frontline workers in Manay, Davao Oriental, following the magnitude 7.4 and magnitude 6.8 doublet earthquakes that rocked the province on October 10.

According to the report of GMA Regional TV One Mindanao's Jandii Esteban, Jay traveled to Manay from Mati City with his street mobile coffee cart to serve hot coffee to frontliners who have to work away from their families due to the calamity.

"Happy, ganito, makapagbigay kami sa frontliners ng mga coffee," said Jay. "Bangon, Manay, Davao Oriental."

Among the fronntliners Jay served were police officers, who expressed their gratitude for his compassion and generosity.

"May big heart pa rin ang mga tao, nagbibigay ng mga natatanggap nilang lessing," said a police officer.

"May mga busilak na puso na tumutulong sa atin," another had said.

The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck offshore Manay on Friday morning, while the 6.8-magnitude offshore earthquake occurred that evening.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said earlier that the second quake was not an aftershock but the latter half of a doublet. A doublet refers to "two closely-timed quakes happening nearby."

The quakes have left 70,985 families affected, based on partial data released by the provincial government as of 4 a.m. on Saturday.

The reported death toll, meanwhile, has risen to eight, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday morning. All of the fatalities were reported in the Davao Region and CARAGA and are still subject to validation.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 aftershocks have been recorded as of Sunday noon, per PHIVOLCS.
