From 'Colony' to 'Backrooms,' here are much talked about films to catch this June
June is fast approaching, and with it, a number of movies that are already sparking conversations online.
Check out the films you shouldn't miss the coming month, starting with the zombie flick that just started showing and is already making waves: "Colony."
"Colony" —Now Showing
From "Train to Busan" director Yeon Sang Ho comes "Colony," another South Korean zombie thriller.
The new film centers on a biotechnology conference in Seoul that descends into chaos after a rapidly mutating virus is unleashed.
"Colony," starring Ji Chang Wook and Jun Ji Hyun, premiered in Philippine theaters in May 27, and has since been creating a buzz worldwide.
"Backrooms" —June 3
If you're up for psychological horror, "Backrooms" is for you.
"Backrooms" shouldn't be a strange concept — after all, it's based on Kane Parsons' web series and that one creepypasta about the endless maze of rooms. Naturally, netizens' interest is piqued.
Directed by Parsons, the film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell.
"Backrooms" will premiere in local cinemas on June 3.
"Masters of the Universe" —June 3
Who wants to see Nicholas Galitzine transform from the prince we know him as in "Red, White & Royal Blue" into a hero?
The actor brings life to He-Man in the upcoming "Masters of the Universe," starring alongside Jared Leto, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley.
"Masters of the Universe," which follows Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man in his quest to save his world, will arrive in Philippine cinemas on June 3.
"Muro-ami" —June 3
A digitally restored and remastered version of "Muro-ami," the 1999 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture, is heading to cinemas soon.
The critically acclaimed film from GMA Pictures stars Cesar Montano, Pen Medina, Jhong Hilario, and Amy Austria. It also features Rebecca Lusterio.
Directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya and written by Ricky Lee and Jun Robles Lana, "Muro-ami" will screen on SM Cinema theaters starting June 3.
BTS World Tour "Arirang" in Busan: Live Viewing —June 13
The world's biggest band is headed to the big screen — live!
BTS will be broadcasting their "Arirang" concert in Busan, South Korean in cinemas around the world, including the Philippines, on June 13.
Aside from being a grand homecoming — BTS is currently on a massive world tour — the Busan show will be a celebration, as the K-pop kings will celebrate their 13th anniversary on the same exact day.

"Toy Story 5" —June 17

The film's official trailer reunited Woody, Buzz, and Jessie as technology threatens the extinction of toys like them.
"Toy Story 5" comes out on June 17, seven years after the release of "Toy Story 4."
"Supergirl" —June 24
Supergirl won hearts when she first showed up at DC's latest take on "Superman." Her appearance was brief, so fans were thrilled when the first trailer for "Supergirl" was released.
The film follows Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl (Milly Alcock) on her mission to save her beloved pet, Krypto, after he was poisoned by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts).
