26 police officers vie for 2018 Miss PNP 'Ganda Pulis'

The Philippine National Police on Thursday officially launched its Miss PNP "Ganda Pulis" 2018 beauty pageant, with 26 officers vying for the title.

Part of its community-building efforts, the pageant also seeks to "provide due recognition to the roles of policewomen as builders of good relationships with the community, which is essential to ensure the success of the Recovery and Wellness Program of the PNP in its campaign against illegal drugs and other advocacy works."

"Ang pinaka-importante, the experience, the exposure and the training and of course the services they're going to give to our organization, to the different programs of the Philippine National Police," Police Community Relations Group director Chief Superintendent Rhodel Sermonia said.

The candidates, who are mostly with ranks of Police Officer 1, represent 16 police regional offices, five police districts, and five national support units.

The winner will be representing the 190,000-strong police force as its goodwill ambassadors who will promote the advocacy of the PNP's recovery and wellness program, programs on women and children, and tourism through the Tourist Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection program.

The 26 candidates will be doing community outreach visits to the reformation center dubbed as "Bahay Pagbabago" in Bataan and Tarlac on April 13 and 14, respectively. They will also be distributing "pangkabuhayan tools" for the graduates of the Bahay Pagbabago recovery and wellness program.

Sermonia said that the candidates will also join the "Pulis Natin Caravan" and other outreach programs that will be held on April 14 in Baguio City. They will then proceed on the promotion of different tourist destinations in Region 1 particularly in the province of La Union on April 15.

A coastal clean-up drive as well as the resorts wear and talent competition will be held on April 16 in La Union as well. The gala night is expected to happen on April 23, 7 p.m. at the PNP multi-purpose center with the incoming PNP chief Director Oscar Albayalde as the guest of honor and speaker.

Meanwhile, the other major awards that will be given are the following: Ms. Maka-Diyos 2018, Ms. Makabansa 2018, Ms. Makatao 2018, and Ms. Makakalikasan 2018.

The special awards, on the other hand, are: Best in Advocacy, Best in Talent, Best in Resorts Wear, Best in Ethnic Costume, Best in Evening Gown, People’s Choice Award, Ms. Photogenic and Ms. Congeniality. —JST, GMA News
