Fashion designer Cesar Gaupo dies at age 72

Fashion designer Cesar Gaupo died in his sleep on Saturday morning. He was 72 years old.

Speaking to GMA News Online via Facebook messenger, grandson Leandro Gaupo Marasigan said the famed fashion designer had a heart attack while sleeping.

"We will miss you. Rest in peace, Lolo Cesar," Leandro wrote on his Facebook page.

On Friday night, he even had a party to celebrate his birthday.

Friends and colleagues mourned his passing.

“Thank you for showing all of us how to be kind to one another. To be generous with your compliments and be supportive with all our endeavors,” read a portion of Rajo Laurel’s tribute to Cesar.

“He is one of the best Filipino designers who really made Filipinos proud when he became the head designer of international label Shanghai Tang…his sudden death is a big loss to the fashion industry,” Michael Cinco wrote.

"I clearly remember you among the crowd giving me a thumbs up on my first ever major group show. You will never know that that gesture gave me one of the biggest inspirations when I was starting as a designer. For that, I thank you and I love you," said Ivarluski Aseron.
