Transwoman triumphantly wears dress in graduation
A dress is more than just a dress. It tells a story.
A young Filipino transwoman got to wear one during her graduation from a Catholic school in Naga City.
According to a report by Jam Sisante-Cayco in GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Monday, the graduate Emma Bueno got dressed to the nines for graduation day. She sported a jumpsuit for the baccalaureate mass and rocked a red dress for their graduation ceremony.
Yet more than her OOTD, Emma's courage and appreciation of self-worth gained the respect of her schoolmates and the online community.
Before her graduation, Emma bravely wrote a letter to their university president when she learned that a member of the graduation committee said that cross-dressing will not be allowed.
In the letter, the graduating accountancy student boldly requested that she be permitted to wear clothes that best express her identity.
Emma's letter received a favorable response from the priest who serves as the university president.
"Emma, please present this letter if your clothing is questioned. Congratulations!" the note from the priest read.
The approval was more than just a graduation gift because the graduation ceremony also coincided with Emma's birthday.
Bravo, Emma! — LA, GMA News
