It is one of several celebrations cooked up for the Pride Month of June, including a reprise of last year’s rainbow-colored pedestrian walk between Gen. Roxas and Gen. Aguinaldo Avenues.

There is also a photo exhibit at the Activity Area of Gateway called “Anong Pangalan Mo sa Gabi” (June 17-20) and free film screenings of “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” from June 20-23 (4-6pm) at the Gateway Gallery.

Meanwhile in the Visayas, the San Julian town of Eastern Samar has been getting a lot of love for its Pride Crosswalk right on a national highway.

"This Pride crosswalk is our welcoming embrace to the LGBT+ people of Eastern Samar and everywhere that San Julian is a safe space by the implementation of our municipal Anti-Discrimination Ordinance (ADO) that we determinedly lobbied. Its location on a national highway signifies that this Pride crosswalk does not belong only to San Julian Pride or our municipality - it transcends our local geographic boundaries. It is our call for the immediate passage into law of the long delayed SOGIE Equality Bill. Our Pride crosswalk is our invitation for everyone to join us in our struggle for acceptance and equality," read a portion of its Facebook update.

June has been hailed Pride Month all around the world to commemorate the Stonewall Riots that happened in New York City in June 1969, which jumpstarted the first demonstrations for gay rights in the US.

All through the month, we celebrate the members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. Does your province, city, or barangay have a Pride Celebration we should know? Leave in the comments below! — LA, GMA News
