This community-centric trade fair in Pasig highlights homegrown goods of its residents

At the 2nd floor Activity Center of Ayala Malls 30th, a stall selling reusable panty-liners stands next to a stall selling shampoo bars. Turning a corner leads to a section where delicious-looking baked goods are fighting for the shopper's attention. In another part of area, cute colorful bags are on display.

Welcome to Neighborgoods. It may look like any old bazaar but it's not. It's actually is a community-centric trade fair highlighting locally made products and homegrown goods of Pasig.

At its launch on Tuesday, Mayor Vico Sotto said the goal really is “to empower people to help themselves and to have better lives.”

According to Sotto, the local government plans to help the people of Pasig with not just with livelihood programs, but in product development all through marketing plans.

“Tutulungan namin sila sa marketing, tutulungan natin sila sa packaging. Gagawin nating sustainable talaga. Ibig sabihin tutulungan natin sila from product development hanggang sa marketing," Sotto said.

"'Yong mga produkto talagang galing sa grassroots kaya very, very proud kami sa mga Pasigueño."

But it's not just a celebration, where a bigger public can check out and buy Pasig products.  At Neighborgoods, workshops on arts and crafts, beauty care, dressmaking and baking will take place as well — so more Pasiguenos can upskill, build businesses, help themselves, ultimatelye, help Pasig City. — LA, GMA News
