What you need to know about hair extensions
Hair extensions are something to opt for if you need to recover from a bad haircut, or simply if you want to switch up your look.
But how do they work and how do you take care of them?
Kapuso actress LJ Reyes recently visited Tokyo Posh, the first salon in the Philippines to specialize in put-on styled hair extensions.
In her vlog, the experts walked her through the process of caring for extensions.
Here are some things you need to know if you're considering to get this procedure:
1. It's semi-permanent
LJ said the salon uses stick-on human hair extensions for the procedure.
The extensions are semi-permanent, which means you'll be able to use them for a long time. Granted that they're cared for properly, only the salon would be able to remove them.
"Matagal mo siyang susuotin, hindi mo siya kailangan tanggalin," LJ said. "Pero once na humaba ang buhok mo kailangan siya i-re-attach sa dulo, kasi sa dulo siya nilalagay."
Another thing to note is that these sticker hair extensions can be reused four to five times.
2. Conditioner and treatments are a must
Extra care is needed to keep the extensions soft and healthy.
The experts at the salon instructed LJ to shampoo as usual, and then proceed with putting conditioner — but only at the bottom.
Avoid putting conditioner at the roots because that's where the stickers are.
Additionally, the hair should be given treatment every once in a while.
"Kailangan siya i-treatment para malambot pa rin siya. Syempre wala na sa roots 'yung hair, 'di nakakabit sa roots 'yung hair so wala na siyang nutrition na na-re-receive," LJ said.
3. It can be styled any way you want
Since it's real hair, you can treat it as you would your normal hair.
You can color it if you change your look, and unlike knotted hair extensions, you can tie your hair back.
Better stick to low ponytails though!
