Mariel de Leon walks for Kim Kardashian's shapewear brand in NYC fashion show
Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel de Leon just walked for Kim Kardashian's new shapewear brand, Skims, in New York City!
Mariel shared the big news on Instagram, along with photos of of on the runway and backstage.
The former beauty queen said she felt extremely thankful that out of more than a thousand girls, she was one of the chosen ones to be part of the fashion show.
But aside from the prestige of it, Mariel shared why the experience was meaningful to her: she was a victim of cyberbullying and body shaming.
"In the past few years, I went through a lot of online bullying and body shaming," she wrote. "But I’m glad that what was perceived as something negative about me to many people was the very thing that got me here."
Skims markets its undergarment products for women of all shapes, sizes, and skin tones.
Mariel said she was proud to have shared the experience with women of all types.
"It's so amazing to see how the fashion industry here has evolved into a more inclusive and diverse one. The women who stand up for inclusivity, diversity, strength, and self-love inspire me to love myself unconditionally and to be okay with the body I have. Thank you," she said.
Mariel announced last year that she signed up with True Model Management in New York. She later relocated to the city to kickstart her modelling career.
