National Book Store denies closure of stores in 'expensive malls'

National Book Store issued a statement denying social media posts claiming the book store is closing stores located in expensive malls.

"National Book Store strongly denies social media post claiming 'NBS closing stores in expensive malls. Only stand-alone shall stay. Going online'," the statement read, assuring their partners and customers that there is no truth to the post.

NBS clarified that the "vast majority of stores nationwide will remain open" with protocols in place to ensure safety.

"Despite the significant challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, National Book Store is working tirelessly to adapt to the difficulties posed by the current situation and continue providing every Laking National with books and supplies," the statement continued.

NBS also said that their mall partners including Ayala, Robinsons, and SM
"have given us a chance to focus our energies in trying to overcome this crisis and continue to serve our customers and communities."

In the same statement, NBS admitted that "a small number of non-performing locations may be evaluated for closure or downsizing as part of our normal course of business."

Apart from strengthening their online stores including their website as well as their official stores on e-commerce websites Shopee and Lazada, NBS is "also developing new channels to enable you to shop safely and conveniently from home, including Text to Order via SMS or Viber and Chat to Shop on Facebook Messenger," the statement read.

"We remain committed to our promise of being your lifelong partner in learning, creativity, and self-expression, and will strive to continue fulfilling this promise as best as we can. Thank you to all our mall partners, banks, suppliers and most significantly our loyal customers for your continuing support during this challenging time," the statement read.

NBS is proud of overcoming a lot of difficulties and challenges in the 80 years in the industry.

In May, it was among the first to make a pivot by introducing its Text-to-Order service, allowing customers to text the nearest NBS branch near them for orders, which will then be ready in 1-2 days' time. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
