Chelsea Fernandez talks about her signature red lipstick look for Miss Universe Philippines
Chelsea Fernandez is grateful for the positive feedback she received from pageant fans after she brought back her iconic red lipstick during Miss Universe Philippines 2025.
In an interview with GMA News Online on Thursday afternoon, Chelsea said that the lip product she used can be bought locally.
"I actually forgot the name of the lipstick, but of course it's really available locally. And thank you for appreciating that red lipstick," she said.
Chelsea recalled that she was amazed because during the Top 6, she noticed that no one else wore red lipstick except her.
"And maybe that is something that, you know, people really remembered about me. So thank you so much, guys, for appreciating that," she said. "Grabe, nanginginig pa nga ako nung nilalagay namin 'yun tapos pinagpasa-pasahan pa 'yun ng tatlong kamay para lang ma-perfect 'yung red lipstick na 'yon on my lips. So yeah, the iconic red lipstick."
Chelsea also said that it's true that many fans really asked her to wear red lipstick, but the decision to debut it on the coronation night wasn't actually the original plan.
"We were supposed to do that on the preliminaries, but my handler and makeup artist decided not to, kasi parang the light—it will not suit the red lipstick. So we decided to do that on the coronation night," she said.
For Chelsea, the sudden change was a good decision.
"Kung makikita nyo 'yung video ko during the preliminaries, naka-red lipstick na 'yung content na in-upload namin kasi 'yun talaga 'yung look ko supposedly. So alam mo 'yun, everything happens for a reason and its own purposes, and I think tama 'yung decision namin to do that on the finals na lang instead of the prelims," she said.
Chelsea has been associated with the striking lip color ever since she wore it during Binibining Pilipinas 2022, where she won Binibining Pilipinas Globe.
She wore it again during Miss Globe 2022, where she finished in the Top 15.
In Miss Universe Philippines 2025, Chelsea represented Sultan Kudarat and took home the Miss Cosmo Philippines crown.
