Baguio hotels' room rates drop this rainy season
Baguio City hotels are offering 30 to 50 percent discounts on room rates to local and foreign tourists until September, to boost tourism during the city’s lean months. The discounts became available in June.
According to Anthony de Leon, general manager of the Baguio Country Club and president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB), the rainy season greatly affects tourist arrivals in the city at this time of year.
However, de Leon explained that the lean season is a good time to schedule a trip, because the daily afternoon rains actually enhance Baguio’s climate and make it more ideal for vacationers.
“Because of the continuous afternoon rains, we have cleaner air to breath, cooler weather, lesser pollution and better sceneries for our visitors,” de Leon said.
Purificacion Molintas, regional director of the Cordillera office of the tourism department, also added that the lean season is the best time for cloud watching.
De Leon also noted that the Hotel and Restaurant Tourism Weekend in the last week of August is another incentive for tourists to visit the city.
