Boracay's last sunset before its closure

On Wednesday, April 25, tourists and residents flocked to the beachfront of Boracay Island to witness the last sunset before its official closure.

The usually crowded and lively white sand beaches had a more somber atmosphere.

While many support the need to address Boracay’s sewege and garbage problems, the decision to close the entire island down has been deemed excessive.

Aside from business owners, workers who depend on the island for income are dismayed by the swift decision to ban tourists, especially without conducting an open dialogue with the community.
