Will Boracay be ready to reopen in October?
Boracay is scheduled to reopen on October 26 after a six-month closure to allow environmental issues plaguing the island to be resolved.
Less than two months before the scheduled reopening, the Born To Be Wild team was able to visit the island paradise to check out what it looks like these days. Kiko Rustia, a former host of the program who moved to Boracay to live, toured the production around.
Regarding concerns about the reopening, Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo Puyat said that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will provide an estimate of the carrying capacity for the island.
"Very important 'yung carrying capacity, and we are waiting for the DENR, and it should follow that," she said.
Meanwhile, as the cleanup alongside the beach continued, the BTBW team also noted ongoing repairs in the backroads of the island.
"'Yung sa daan po, what we can assure the public is the moment na magkaroon na ng dry run on October 15 ay maayos na po 'yung main road," DENR Usec. Benny Antiporda said.
"Ito po ay mga add-ons lang po, pero makikita po natin 'yung anim na metro na kalye, ngayon po'y dose metros na."
Antiporda noted that President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Boracay closed because it had become a "cesspool."
"'Yun po ang ina-address natin, na hindi na po magbalik 'yung dumi ulit ng tubig," he added. —JST, GMA News
