Three PHL islands make it to Conde Nast Traveler’s 30 best islands in the world 2018

International travel magazine Conde Nast Travelers recently released its Readers’ Choice Awards for 2018.

For the best islands in the world category, the magazine thought it best to organize the 30-point list by region: Asia, Australia and the South Pacific, Caribbean and the Atlantic, Europe, North America, and the rest of planet earth.

The editors decided to do a separate list for the U.S.

In Asia, the Philippines dominated with Siargao, Palawan, and Boracay taking on three of the five slots. Malaysia’s Langkawi and Indonesia’s Bali complete the list.

Of Siargao, CNT writes: “The ‘teardrop-shaped Philippine island [is] home to more than 15 separate surf breaks including the legendary Cloud 9, which counts Kelly Slater and Anthony Keidis among its fans’.”

The magazine described the newly-opened Boracay as “as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastline and made-for-Instagram sunsets.”

Acknowledging Palawan as “a regular on our list of the world’s best islands,” CNT highly recommended the UNESCO World Heritage site Puerto Princesa Subterranean River.
