Agoda launches new feature listing health, hygiene measures of accommodations

Digital travel platform Agoda has launched a new verification feature listing the health and hygiene measures implemented by accommodation providers.

In a press release on Tuesday, Agoda announced "HygienePlus," which allows prospective travelers to identify lodging places which maintain a safe environment amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The feature is composed of a checklist based on international healthcare standards, such as contactless check-in and check-out, temperature checks, provision of face masks and hand sanitizers, daily disinfection, protective screens in common areas, and signage for physical distancing.

"People are raring to travel again but need the reassurance that hygiene measures at their destination are rigorous," said Omri Morgenstern, Agoda Chief Operating Officer.

"Hoteliers and accommodation providers need to regain the confidence of travelers and have been working hard to implement safety measures to do so," he added.

According to a survey commissioned by Agoda, Asian travelers prioritize "Hygiene Standard Listings" when considering which places to book.

Several tourist spots in the Philippines have resumed partial operations, such as Tagaytay and Baguio.

Hotels in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ have also been allowed to operate at full capacity.

In September, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved "staycations" in GCQ areas. —MGP, GMA News
