5 Cool things to do in Tokyo during the Christmas season

Where before everybody and their uncle went to Japan for Christmas, this year, everybody's staying put.

So if you're wondering how Tokyo is doing amid the seemingly neverending pandemic, "Unang Hirit" took viewers on a special virtual tour to give them a taste of what the vibrant city looks like these days.

The first stop is the famous Tokyo Tower. It actually has a mall complex at the bottom where you can buy the most amazing souvenir gifts like the Tokyo Banana.

Viewers also got to see what's inside Japan's famous discount store Don Quijote while Shibuya Crossing continued to bustle as thousands of citizens have been doing some last-minute Christmas shopping.

If it's some outdoor fun you're after, Tokyo is filled with spectacular Christmas displays called "Winter Illuminations" during the Christmastime.

After that, you can go on a relaxing stroll around Yoyogi Park where there was plenty of fresh air and social distancing.

UH also went to the Meiji Jingu Shrine where many come for Hatsumode, a Japanese tradition wherein they visit a temple to give thanks at the start of the year.

Of course, a trip to Tokyo won't be complete without trying famous Japanese treats including ramen, onigiri, mochi, dorayaki and fluffy pancakes.

To learn more about these must-try snacks and must-see destinations in Tokyo, watch Unang Hirit's entire "Touristar" segment hosted by Japan-based vlogger JA Hocson.
