The Black Nazarene meets Nuestra Señora Del Carmen at Dungaw earlier than usual

The image of Black Nazarene met his mother Nuestra Señora Del Carmen during the traditional Dungaw on Tuesday afternoon as part of the Traslacion's procession.

The Black Nazarene arrived at Plaza del Carmen, outside San Sebastian Church, to meet the Virgin Mary at 2:57 pm.

He was greeted by the tolling of the bells and the crowd shouting, "Viva!” while raising their hands in the air.

The Dungaw ended at an earlier time beating the 2020 record of 4:33 p.m.

According to the San Sebastian Basilica Conservation and Development Foundation, Inc., the “Dungaw” rite, also known as La Mirata, is one of the highlights during the procession of the Black Nazarene.

It serves as a symbol of maternal love, inviting reflection and prayer on the journey towards the ultimate destination – to be with Mary and her Son, the Nazarene.
