Grab partners with Iloilo taxi operators to expand EV services

Grab Philippines has partnered with two transport operators in Iloilo to expand its electric vehicle (EV) ride-hailing services in Western Visayas.

Under GrabTaxi Electric, Grab is partnering with Quarry Taxi and MOMOFED Taxi to provide local EV drivers with opportunities to earn while expanding the availability of electric taxis in the region.

“Electric mobility will succeed when it delivers real and lasting value to the communities that keep our cities moving. In Iloilo, Grab is working alongside local taxi operators and driver communities to expand economic opportunities, strengthen livelihoods, and give commuters cleaner and more reliable ways to travel,” GrabCar General Manager Gines Barot said in a statement.

“As fuel prices remain unpredictable, electrification also offers a more resilient path forward, helping taxi operators manage costs and drivers protect their earnings for the long term,” he added.

Feast Group Inc.’s Quarry Taxi is the first EV taxi operator in Western Visayas and one of Grab’s initial fleet electrification partners in the region.

Meanwhile, MOMOFED Transport Group Corporation, which operates MOMOFED Taxi in Iloilo, is also a pilot partner of Grab for fleet electrification in Western Visayas.

Grab said drivers in Iloilo City can use the Evro app to locate and pay for charging services at ACMobility stations at Robinsons Iloilo, Seda Atria, and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo.

GrabTaxi Electric and its operating partners also collaborated with vehicle manufacturers, including Toyota, BYD, GAC, MG, and Geely, to secure durable taxi models compliant with Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) requirements.

These automotive partners will provide local after-sales service, spare parts availability, discounted purchasing rates, fleet warranties, and prioritized maintenance support, Grab said.

In his fifth State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. pushed for the transition to electric public transportation and called on the EV industry to support the government’s transport modernization efforts.

Marcos later signed Executive Order No. 121, which provides fiscal incentives for the local manufacture of hybrid and battery electric passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and their parts and components. — VBL, GMA News
