LRMC: Strategies being rolled out to address congestion at LRT-1 PITX Station
Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), on Friday said it is addressing crowd flow and passenger congestion at the PITX Station of LRT-1.
In a news release, LRMC said it has targeted initiatives designed to optimize crowd flow and boost overall accessibility at PITX Station.
The company said it is in coordination with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in “executing comprehensive operational enhancements aimed at delivering a smoother, more seamless experience for the commuting public.”
“To address peak passenger volumes and ease station congestion, LRMC is taking direct action across several key operational areas,” it said.
“The company is actively adding new ticket counters to complement its existing booths, directly boosting capacity for commuters purchasing Single Journey Tickets (SJT) and reloading their Stored Value Cards (SVC),” it added.
The LRT-1 operator added that it is strategically relocating ticket-vending machines (TVMs) across the station to better serve high-density crowds as well as offer additional options for purchasing tickets and topping up cards.
“LRMC is also reconfiguring and relocating turnstile gates to actively resolve passenger queuing by streamlining flow not only for commuters entering the station platform but also for those alighting from arriving trains,” it said.
“LRMC and its grantors are targeting full implementation of these station enhancements within the fourth quarter this year,” it added.
LRMC, moreover, said it has ongoing coordination and talks with the management of the adjacent landport, the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), “to establish even stronger operational synergies and improve overall multimodal transit integration for passengers transferring between bus and rail lines.”
Satellite ticket booths at the PITX Station are also being placed to assist passengers and relieve queues during high-volume periods.
LRMC added it continues to operate a dedicated express lane for SVC users with sufficient load balance, while keeping regular lanes open for commuters purchasing SJTs and reloading their SVCs. —AOL, GMA News
