LRMC: Free LRT-1 rides on select hours of June 12, 2026, Independence Day

Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), is offering free rides to commuters during select hours on June 12, 2026 in commemoration of the country’s 128th Independence Day.

In a news release on Wednesday, LRMC said free rides on LRT-1 will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“Known as the Heritage Line, the LRT-1 system traverses key historical locations and cultural destinations across Metro Manila. The free ride initiative aims to make it easier for the public to join Independence Day festivities and visit cultural and tourist spots near stations, allowing Filipinos to reconnect with the nation's rich history,” the company said.

“During the free ride period, passengers with beepTM cards simply need to tap their cards at the Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) gates as usual, and no fare will be deducted from their load. Ticket Vending Machines will only process Stored Value Card initial purchases and top-up transactions,” it added.

LRMC said passengers who will opt to use Single Journey Tickets will be asked to proceed to the teller booths to claim free tickets.

“On Independence Day, LRT-1 will follow its holiday operating schedule. The first trains are scheduled to depart from both Dr. Santos and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 5:00 a.m.,” the company said.

“For the last trips of the day, the final train will leave Dr. Santos Station at 9:30 p.m., while the final train from Fernando Poe Jr. Station will depart at 9:45 p.m.,” it added.—AOL, GMA News
