MPTC expects expressway traffic to rise 12% on peak Undas days
Traffic on expressways operated by Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) is expected to increase by about 12% on peak travel days ahead of Undas, with the company preparing additional personnel and traffic management measures from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3.
MPTC said Tuesday that overall traffic volume across its expressways is projected to rise by around 5% during the holiday period, with the heaviest traffic expected on Oct. 30 and 31.
The company operates the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), NLEX Connector, Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
Outbound traffic on the NLEX which runs from Balintawak in Quezon City to Sta. Ines in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, and the SCTEX, which connects Subic in Zambales to Tarlac City via Clark in Pampanga, is expected to peak from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
Return traffic is expected to build up from late afternoon on Nov. 2 until the early hours of Nov. 3, MPTC said.
MPTC said Tuesday that overall traffic volume across its expressways is projected to rise by around 5% during the holiday period, with the heaviest traffic expected on Oct. 30 and 31.
CAVITEX and CALAX are also expected to see heavier traffic on the afternoon of Oct. 30 and the morning of Nov. 3.
To manage the anticipated increase, MPTC said it would deploy about 2,000 personnel covering traffic operations, toll collection, security, incident response and technical support across its expressways.
The company said its traffic teams would coordinate with the Philippine National Police, local government units and other government agencies throughout the period.
MPTC said it will implement its “Biyaheng Arangkada” program across its expressway network during the same period.
The initiative covers traffic management and road safety measures, with SCTEX operations conducted in partnership with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority and CAVITEX operations in partnership with the Philippine Reclamation Authority through PEA Tollway Corp.— MCG, GMA News
