Outsourcing firm still eyes expansion in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Outsourcing company PeopleSupport may still consider expansion in Metro Manila despite the saturation of contact centers in the Philippines’ most populated city, an executive said. The California-headquartered company remains bullish about expanding in Metro Manila because bulk of human resources needed by the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry are still in the metropolis, Rainerio M. Borja, PeopleSupport Philippines President, said. Although he refused to disclose the firm’s prospective locations, Borja excluded Makati City and Bonifacio Global City as possible sites since these are expensive. Earlier, PeopleSupport sold its Bonifacio Global City property for $12 million. Bonifacio Global City has been positioned as an alternative to Makati City, the Philippines’ premier business district. Other BPO centers in Metro Manila house special economic zones, allowing locators to enjoy tax perks and other incentives. Among these are Quezon City, the Ortigas business district and the Marikina City/Pasig City/Cainta City area. The company’s Baguio City facility, located at the SM Cyberzone Building at the heart of country’s summer capital, will continue its expansion this fourth quarter, Borja said. The expansion will add anywhere from 500 to 700 more seats for a total of up to 1,200 seats by the end of the year. - GMANews.TV
