Six contractors pre-qualify for DepEd’s PPP classroom project

Six contractors have pre-qualified in bidding for the construction of 9,301 classrooms in 2,204 public schools, the Department of Education said Thursday.   The pre-qualified bidders in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for School Infrastructure Project (PSIP) are:

  • BF Corporation-Riverbanks Development Corporation Consortium
  • D.M. Wenceslao & Associates Inc.-DATEM Inc.
“On April 30, 2012, the six qualified bidders will participate in a lottery to determine the school sites where they are expected to put up their prototype structures,” DepEd said in a statement.   “The assembly or construction of a sample two-story, two-classroom building is required under the PSIP technical bid evaluation process,” the department added.   The actual site in Bulacan province, where the prototypes would be built, is still being determined by government.   PSIP is one of eight PPP projects President Benigno Aquino III has ordered as a priority project for implementation this year, said Education Secretary Armin Luistro.   There will be three sets of PSIP biddings for the construction of up to 30,000 classrooms, Luistro noted.   “The DepEd hopes to proceed with the second batch of PSIP packages as soon as a successful tender is achieved for the first bid,” DepEd also said in its statement. —VS, GMA News
