DMCI Power bags 25-MW Paleco supply contract

DMCI Power Corp. on Wednesday said it won the supply contract covering the needs of Palawan Electric Cooperative’s (Paleco) 25-megawatt power plant.

"... DMCI Power Corp. was the lowest bidder with true cost generation rate [TCGR] of P9.38," parent DMCI Holdings said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn placed the city under a state of emergency early this month when it experienced to three-hour power outages. This came about after Paleco failed to pick a supplier for the second time.

Since April last year, Paleco opened the bidding for a third power provider ahead of the October 2013 expiration of the Napocor-Paleco Interim Supply Agreement for 10 megawatts to 45 MW of energy.

The bidding covered 25MW of electricity that will replace the Napocor supply and meet additional demand.

The DMCI Power earlier said it planned to take part in the privatization of 12 areas under the Small Power Utilities Group offered by the National Power Corp.

Aside from Palawan, other SPUG areas in the country are Mindoro, Catanduanes, Siquijor, Romblon, Tablas, Sulu, Basiland, and Tawi-Tawi. — VS, GMA News
