Petron, Seaoil also freeze price hikes in flood-hit areas

At least two more oil firms held off planned price hikes for next week in Metro Manila and areas hit hard by heavy rain and flooding in past days.

Oil companies Petron and Seaoil said they are planning to freeze any price hike for fuel products in the affected areas.

"Petron will hold off any possible increases in its fuel products next week in Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Tarlac," Petron said on its Twitter account. It said this is aside from the relief operations it is conducting. Petron said 350 of its gas stations continue to accept relief goods, such as used clothing, blankets, canned goods, and drinking water for flood victims.

So far, it said its relief operations have assisted about 5,500 families in Marikina, Bataan, Bulacan and Manila.

Petron said it will coordinate with the Corporate Network for Disaster Response and Department of Social Welfare and Development to hold more relief operations in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a report on dzBB radio said Seaoil will be keeping prices at current levels until next week, despite increases in world market prices.

The dzBB report on Friday said Seaoil plans a price freeze in areas including Metro Manila, Rizal, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Bulacan, and Cavite.

Earlier, Shell and Chevron announced similar initiatives.

Chevron said it will hold off fuel price hikes in Metro Manila, Rizal, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Laguna (Sta. Cruz, Pagsanjan), and Cavite (Bacoor, Kawit, Rosario), and Bulacan.

Shell said it is implementing a price freeze in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Laguna (Sta. Cruz and Pagsanjan only), and Cavite (Bacoor, Kawit and Rosario only).

"This early may nakikita kami potential price incrase next week. Sabi na lang namin, mag-price freeze kami next week in various locations na tinamaan (This early we could see a potential price hike next week. But we will freeze prices in various locations that were affected by the floods)," Kanapi said in an interview on dzBB radio Thursday. –ELR, GMA News
