Globe Telecom network service restored, rebates readied for affected users
Globe Telecom on Monday said it has restored its network services, following a glitch that disrupted subscribers' calls and text messaging in parts of Metro Manila and Laguna last weekend.
In a blog post, Globe also said it is readying rebates for prepaid and postpaid subscribers affected by last weekend's service disruption.
The company said the connectivity issues were due to signaling problems within its existing legacy network, which it is being upgraded.
"(A) router supplied by a leading US vendor malfunctioned and had to be reconfigured. This has resulted in Globe customers experiencing difficulty making and receiving calls in some parts of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque as well as parts of Manila and Pasay this weekend. The issue was detected Saturday and was partially resolved by Sunday," it said.
As of late Monday, it said the problem has been completely resolved and all services in the affected areas are back to normal.
Globe said it will also be replacing this system in conjunction with its new network build.
Globe Telecom is currently implementing a $700 million network modernization program meant to “future proof” the telecom firm’s network so it could handle more data at faster speeds.
Rebates
In a series of posts on its Twitter account, Globe apologized anew for the service disruption and said it may offer rebates to affected subscribers.
It said subscribers in the affected areas can "expect a rebate" to be communicated via SMS.
"We are truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We will continue to provide updates on this today," it said. — DVM, GMA News
