Globe lures new prepaid subscribers with unlimited offers

Globe Telecom Inc. added 1.4 million new subscribers as of end-June 2012 due to its unlimited offers, KD Dizon, head of Globe Prepaid, announced in a statement.   Its prepaid subscribers stood at 16.1 million in the first half of the year, up 9 percent from 14.7 million a year earlier. Fifty-one percent of Globe’s subscriber base consisted of prepaid accounts.   Three million new subscribers were added in the second quarter, up by 2 percent from 2.9 million in the first three months.   In the first half of the year, 5.9 million new subscriber identity modules or SIM were acquired, up 6 percent from 5.6 million a year earlier, the company said.   The growth momentum may be due to Globe’s newest prepaid offer bundled with unlimited texts, calls, and access to Facebook, the telco noted.   Its GOUNLI30 allows subscribers to send unlimited texts to all networks, make unlimited calls to Globe/TM, and log on to Facebook on mobile for P30 a day.    “Registration is also easier because subscribers have various ways to avail of the promo, either through registration codes or our self-service menu *143#.   “It is P10 less than the same promo offered by competition, but still giving subscribers more with the bundled unlimited all-network texts instead of just Tri-Net,” Dizon noted.   Arch-rival Smart claimed to have more than 51.5 million mobile subscribers as of end-June 2012, of which 90 percent were prepaid accounts. Its prepaid subscribers are served by more than a million load retailers all over the country, the network noted. — VS, GMA News
